Empowering Farmers (2023 First Trimester)

In 2023, AIIR trained 1,600 chili farmers in the districts of Kirehe, Ngoma, Bugesera, and Kayonza. Training focused on advanced agricultural techniques, leading to a 20% reduction in post-harvest losses and increased crop yields, directly enhancing farmers’ incomes.

Building Local Capacity with Training of Trainers (ToT)

To ensure a self-sustaining model of agricultural knowledge, 67 local trainers were equipped to share and maintain best practices across their communities, establishing an enduring knowledge-sharing ecosystem.

Investing in Infrastructure (2024 First Trimester)

In 2024, AIIR constructed three chili-drying greenhouses in Kirehe and Rwamagana, resulting in a 30% reduction in spoilage rates and improved chili quality, adding significant value for farmers.

Business plan training

AIIR conducts bi weekly a business development training for MSME’s that want to opt for the services of Equip Rwanda ltd. Through the years more then 1500 MSME’s have been trained.

Hands-On Learning and Support

For potential SME’s AIIR organises an business masterclass whereby SME’s are trained on business and entrepreneurial skills to stimulate growth of their businesses.

Hakizimana Evariste: Growing Wealth with Each Chili Harvest

Hakizimana Evariste from Rwanda’s Eastern Province has been cultivating chili on his 0.31-hectare plot since 2022. With seeds and training from AIIR’s partner, Spices Rwanda Ltd., Hakizimana’s 0.15-hectare chili plot now yields him up to 1 million Rwandan francs each trimester. This reliable income has empowered him to repay a bank loan, build a home for his family, and stay on top of school fees. His gratitude for AIIR and its partners shines as he looks forward to continued success with his next chili crop.

Bernadette: Empowering Prosperity Through Chili Farming

Bernadette , a dedicated farmer from Kirehe, cultivates chili on 3 of her 5 hectares, with seeds provided by AIIR’s partner, Spices Rwanda Ltd. Since starting, she’s seen a significant increase in profits from her land. Before joining the program, obtaining quality seeds and knowledge on optimal practices was challenging. Now, with expert training from Spices Rwanda and access to quality seeds, Bernadette not only sustains her household but also confidently supports her family’s daily needs. She is grateful for the training and resources that have transformed her farming journey.

Epiphanie: Gaining Independence Through Sustainable Employment

At 25, Epiphanie s found stability working in a 3-hectare chili farm in Kirehe. Through her role as a harvester, she’s directly involved in sorting and preparing chili for drying, where she helps ensure only the highest quality produce makes it to market. Thanks to AIIR’s support of farmers in Kirehe through Spices Rwanda Ltd., Epiphanie now earns enough to cover her rent and essential expenses. She’s grateful for the opportunity to earn a sustainable income, and her work has become a source of independence and pride.

Muhire Bonifas: Resilience and Opportunity in Chili Farming

Muhire Bonifas, a committed farmer from Nasho, cultivates chili on his 0.15-hectare plot with training and seeds provided by AIIR’s partner, Spices Rwanda Ltd. After facing setbacks last season, he persevered and reinvested his earnings into more land. Today, his newly planted chili is thriving, thanks to the enhanced agricultural techniques he’s acquired. Muhire’s story of resilience reflects the determination of Rwandan farmers, and he expresses deep gratitude for the support that AIIR and Spices Rwanda have provided to help him build a brighter future.

Uwizeye Naome

Naome is the proud owner of a dry-cleaning business and sewing school in Kanombe, which she has successfully run for five years. Since partnering with AIIR through Equip Rwanda Ltd, her business has flourished. Thanks to this support, she was able to acquire both a washing machine and a sewing machine, which have significantly boosted her services. Naome feels grateful for AIIR’s assistance, which has helped her become financially stable. Today, she not only covers her rent and essentials but also gives back by teaching a sewing class for women, empowering others in her community.

Theogene Ndayisaba

Based in Kimironko, Theogene owns a garage that has been steadily growing. With AIIR’s support through its implementing partner Equip Rwanda Ltd, he received a compressor paint machine and a diagnostic tool, which have allowed him to attract more clients and improve his service quality. Theogene expresses his appreciation for AIIR’s support, as it has truly transformed his business and expanded his customer base.

Uwimana Florent

Florent, a young motorcyclist in Kigali, has been working in the city for over a year and a half. Through AIIR and Equip Rwanda Ltd, he was able to purchase his own motorcycle, freeing him from riding for others. Now, he independently earns enough to pay his rent, cover his daily expenses, and support his basic needs. Florent is incredibly thankful for the training and assistance from AIIR, which has empowered him to build a more stable livelihood.
